From 12 February 2026 the ZODIAK Warsaw Pavilion of Architecture will present an exhibition devoted to the concepts of spatial planning for Singapore by the Polish architect and urban planner Krystyn Olszewski. The exhibition is curated by Piotr Woliński.
The beginnings of twentieth-century Singapore tell the story of a metropolis confronting a crisis in managing urban space. Due to global and revolutionary economic and social changes, unprecedented technological and industrial development, Singapore faced challenges related to rapid urbanization.
The city’s recovery was to be achieved through decentralization and the creation of a structure composed of residential, work and leisure spaces, parts integrated into a harmonious whole and connected by an extensive transport system.
Krystyn Olszewski, a Polish architect and urban planner, played a special role in that transformation, contributing with his work to the spatial layout of Singapore. The long-term, systematic and consistent spatial planning initiated then became the foundation for building the modern city. That urban concept of Singapore contains not only the past but also the future of a city facing the challenges of the 21st century.
