    About the event

We will conclude the film evenings of the 4th Summer Film Review Under the Common Sky with a special touch – Indian cinema, which this year is dedicated to women. For the finale, we will showcase Payal Kapadia's feature debut "All Shades of Light," awarded the Grand Prix at Cannes – a poetic, intergenerational story about three women from Mumbai who support each other in the face of life's challenges. The evening's guest will be Iwona Szelezińska – a graduate of Indian philology and cultural animation at Jagiellonian University, a tour guide in India and Nepal since 2007. She is the author of reports for CSPA, "Gazeta Wyborcza," and travel magazines. She debuted with a book about Nepal "Kick the Ball Above the Clouds" (2018), and in 2024 published "Bombay/Mumbai. Whispers of the City." She lives in Warsaw but spends a significant part of the year in Asia. She runs the travel agency MIEJSCA, organizing trips to India, Nepal, and other countries. ALL SHADES OF LIGHT (2024) | dir. Payal Kapadia, feature film, 114’, India, France, Netherlands, Luxembourg 🎥 About the film: In rainy, bustling Mumbai, the lives of three women from different generations intertwine. Prabha is a nurse who hasn't heard from her husband working in Germany for a year, masking her loneliness with overzealousness at work. Her younger roommate, Anu, hides her romance with a Muslim man from her family. Joining them is an elderly widow, Parvaty, who loses her home after eviction. In a city full of contrasts, where tradition clashes with modernity and poverty with beauty, the women build a network of mutual solidarity that becomes their refuge. Payal Kapadia's feature debut, the first Indian title in 30 years to compete in Cannes' main competition, won the prestigious Grand Prix there and subsequently captured the hearts of critics worldwide. 🏆 Festivals and awards: - Golden Globes – 2 nominations: Best Non-English Language Film, Best Director (2024) - Cannes Film Festival – Grand Prix (2024) - Gotham Awards – Best International Film Award (2024) We invite you to discover cinema that unites and creates a space for safe, creative intercultural dialogue!
