We've known each other forever... wait, wait... do we really know each other? My Version of the Truth is a dramedy about four siblings who meet in their father's apartment on the day of his funeral to sort through the deceased's belongings and decide what to do with the inheritance. Meanwhile, they discover that the apartment has been completely ransacked. The situation is all the more peculiar as there are no signs of a break-in, and nothing valuable has been stolen. What was the intruder looking for? And did they find it? The meeting turns into a meticulous investigation that unexpectedly triggers extreme emotions, revives mutual animosities, and brings up difficult memories. Family secrets come to light. Research from the Harvard Study of Adult Development shows that close relationships—both familial and social—are key to our well-being, health, happiness, and longevity. Although most of us claim that family is important, even the most important, more and more people experience loneliness, even among family or friends. Why? This play is a poignant yet humorous story about the power of communication and the need for openness in relationships with family, friends, and everyone around us, regardless of where we are in our lives. The creators invite us to reflect on how our daily gestures and words impact the world around us. They don't limit themselves to a story about family but address interpersonal relationships in a broader context. They pose universal questions: what causes us to drift apart? Why do we destroy bonds? Can we find the courage and strength to rebuild them, even if it seems too late?
