"It is becoming increasingly difficult to shake off the impression that our physical reality plays a subordinate role to what can be said about it or how it can be sold. Confronting this feeling becomes an important aspect in the work of Katarzyna Wyszkowska and Adam Nehring. One of their starting points is the reflections of French sociologists Luc Boltanski and Arnaud Esquerre in the book Enrichment, where the authors describe Western economies as increasingly dependent on the economics of enrichment. In this model the price of a good does not result from its physical properties but from the narrative that enriches it.
(...)
Following Wyszkowska and Nehring we can trace the shift from a first-person attempt to create stories to an approach in which narratives about people are written by themselves, as if from the third-person perspective of an average and universal reader-narrator. The thesis presented in Enrichment helps to organise these observations: "the main resource of the enrichment economy is the creation and shaping of differences and identities", whereby identity should be understood in two senses — as the awareness of who one is and as sameness."
