10th Festival of Abstract Thought 🗓️ October 22-26, 2025 📍 Jazdów Estate, Warsaw FROM THE BELLY. Body, corporeality, materiality. Program already available on the website: https://www.fma.waw.pl/ Workshop - registration: https://forms.gle/TPjx8NqbMjSrwz7d7 I have a body and I’m not afraid to use it – exercises in performative assembly theory 🗓️ Sunday, 26.10.2025 ⏰ 16:30-18:30 📍 Rotational House of Culture At the Festival of Abstract Thought, the world is processed and created through critical thinking, speaking, analyzing, and interpreting phenomena. It is a training of a specific part of the brain, one of many organs that co-shape our being and actions in the world. As a dancer and somatic educator, I would like to invite you, as people with very different bodies, experiences, and abilities, to bring what is bodily and community-building to the forefront – skin, body temperature, flow of emotions, (un)shyness, anger, desires, and language as a slippery muscle. The exercises I will share with you are inspired by Judith Butler’s “Notes Toward a Performative Theory of Assembly” and will set in motion our herstories of (weak) resistance in public space. We will intertwine conscious being in the body, moving, dancing, and reflectiveness as the ability to analyze current experience. During the classes, I sensitize participants to the culture of consent and respect for their own and others’ boundaries, and I encourage participants to take responsibility for how they want to participate and benefit from the knowledge I share in the workshops. We will start with a circle to get to know our needs and body-mind states before beginning the work. Dress comfortably and warmly (we will lie on the floor for a while), bring water to drink and writing materials. If the weather is good, we will also go outside. Alicja Czyczel – choreographer, dancer, educator, social activist. Graduate of choreography at ICI-CCN Montpellier, cultural studies (MISH) at the Institute of Polish Culture, Experimental Choreography Course at Centrum w Ruchu in Warsaw, and postgraduate studies "Collective Practices" at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Author of choreographies (“LAGMA”), sound installations (“Soaking in the world”), performances and site-specific walks (“Snail’s Trail”) combining movement, ecological sensitivity, and community practices. She creates and facilitates artistic and educational processes in which the body is a place of resistance, healing, and interspecies coexistence. She has performed in shows and performances by Daniel Kotowski, Ania Nowak, Joanna Piotrowska, and Vincent Dupont. As a choreographer in dramatic theater, she co-created “The Hearing Trumpet” directed by Weronika Szczawińska and “Antigone in Molenbeek” directed by Anna Smolar. In 2021, she released an album with soundscapes “Toń” (Szara Reneta label). As a member of the Przestrzeń Wspólna initiative, she is involved in building environmental dialogue based on cooperation, resource sharing, and a culture of consent (“The Great Book of Scores” at Jasna 10). She co-led with Tatiana Cholewa the “Dance and Disability” Laboratory at NIMiT in 2022. She was a mentor at Kem School 2024. She is the author of the "Manifesto for the Ecologization of Independent Choreography and Performing Arts," published in Dialog Puzyny. Her essayistic and poetic texts have appeared in “Dialog,” “Glissando,” “Playground,” and “Moving Texts.” EVENT ACCESSIBILITY WORKSHOPS AND STUDIOS: - The cottages where workshops, studios, and films take place are not fully accessible for people with mobility disabilities.
