    About the event

10th Festival of Abstract Thought 🗓️ October 22-26, 2025 📍 Jazdów Estate, Warsaw FROM THE BELLY. Body, corporeality, materiality. Program already on the website: https://www.fma.waw.pl/ Film and meeting – no registration required Moved Bodies – Choreographies of Protest 🗓️ Saturday, 25.10.2025 ⏰ 18:30-22:00 📍 Open Workshop Jazdów Choreographer and dance theorist Randy Martin wrote about choreography as a matrix for protest actions. Today, music and dance accompany social uprisings, for example in the form of techno protests. Where state oppression is greatest, illegal raves play a bigger role. Currently, some of the most important rave culture scenes are in Tbilisi, Beirut, and Tehran. Moreover, despite the ongoing war with Russia, club culture is reviving in Kyiv, giving people the energy they need to survive. Techno protests are also organized in Poland, for example during the Women's Strike in 2020. In October 2019, a wave of protests broke out in Chile, called estallido social (social outburst). These were accompanied by arson, but also by the song "El violador eres tú" (You are the rapist), written in revolutionary anger, and a choreography created for it. Before the workshop, we will watch Pablo Larraín's film "Ema" together, where the title character uses fire and reggaeton as her language of resistance. The film is, in a way, a prelude to the fiery protests in Chile that took place less than two months after the film's premiere at the Venice Festival. During the meeting, we will talk about how dance can teach us rebellion. We will consider examples of dance revolutions and how effective they are. Together, we will try to invent our own choreographies of the future. Alicja Nowacka – film expert and critic. She worked as an educator at the Andrzej Wajda Film Culture Center. Currently, she is a curator at the National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute. She conducts film lectures and organizes cultural events. She programmed young audience festivals Kino w Trampkach and LET’S DOC (currently). Winner of the Grand Prix of the 27th Krzysztof Mętrak Competition for film critics.
