Tadeusz, a veteran of the September campaign, returns to Krakow after twenty years spent in exile in London. He is summoned by a letter from his son, Maciek, who tells him about the mysterious fate of the youngest brother – Jędrek. The mother still cannot come to terms with his loss, and Tadeusz, who remembers Jędrek only from the day of his first communion, cannot find himself in the reality of occupation memories. He decides to solve the mystery of his brother's death on his own. He meets people and places that reveal more questions than answers. Did Jędrek die at the hands of the Germans, or was he considered a traitor by the conspirators? "Szyfry" is a film about the search for truth, memory, and the incomprehension of history. Wojciech Jerzy Has created a work that defies simple categorization – combining realism with a poetic vision, reflecting on the myth of heroism and the morality of wartime. It is an excellent opportunity to rediscover one of the most original films of Polish cinema and to honor the memory of the master – Wojciech Jerzy Has.
