This walk is devoted to the work of Zdzisław Beksiński, one of the best-known Polish postwar painters. One of the two permanent exhibitions of his works is located at the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre (Nowa Huta, Kraków), where we will see paintings from the Anna and Piotr Dmochowski collection.
Beksiński (1929–2005) is an artist who provokes strong emotions; he also worked in design, drawing and photography. His works have inspired films, computer games, VR projects and tattoos. From the surviving materials emerges an artist who valued creative independence, rarely commented on his art and appeared at exhibitions only occasionally.
Nearest biographical context: Piotr Dmochowski was the artist’s greatest collector and friend; Beksiński lived and worked in Warsaw, and tragic events in his personal life led to his death in 2005.
