The Nobel Prize in Literature 2025 goes to the Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai, known in Poland for "Satan's Tango," "The Melancholy of Resistance," and "War and War". Wishing to bring Krasznahorkai's work closer to you, together with the Timeless Film Festival Warsaw, we have reached for his fruitful collaboration with his friend, film director Béla Tarr. Therefore, we invite you to a screening of a film by this excellent screenwriter-director duo: "Damnation" 🎬 08/02 Sunday at 16:00 About the film: A melodrama that only Béla Tarr could make. Dense and suffocating like the atmosphere in the Titanik bar, where much of the action of this film, one of the most important in the oeuvre of the Hungarian master, takes place. In a city drowned in cold rain and mud, we follow the fate of characters entangled in a love triangle. He is unhappily in love with a singer. She dreams of escaping the provinces and a real career. Her husband gets involved in illegal business. Drawing from the iconography of film noir, with "Damnation" Béla Tarr began a long-term collaboration with the esteemed writer László Krasznahorkai, which in later years brought such masterpieces as "Satan's Tango" and "The Turin Horse." It is also the first film in which the Hungarian's recognizable style was formed. Over the years, long, atmospheric black-and-white shots, as well as a fondness for post-industrial landscapes and gloomy characters crushed by life, have become the hallmark of Tarr's cinema. The excellent camerawork of Gábor Medvigy can be fully appreciated on the big cinema screen, especially since we will see a screening from a restored copy of "Damnation." The film will be presented in the next edition of the Timeless cycle, this time in winter! Below is a summary of what we have prepared. The co-organizer of the screening is Timeless Film Festival Warsaw.
