The music theory course will cover topics: - Basic music principles such as: the concept of sound, major scales, minor scales, rhythmics, meter, musical notation, intervals, triads. - Introduction to Functional Harmony, including topics such as: functional tonality, triads in major and minor keys, chord nomenclature, voice leading rules. - Structure and function of seventh chords. - Chord progressions and their application. - Analysis of selected musical works from a theoretical perspective prepared by the instructor and proposed by the participants. The course is practical in nature and the acquired knowledge will be immediately used in musical work. Thanks to this knowledge, you will achieve a higher level of understanding music, you will learn the structures that govern it, making learning your favorite pieces faster and more enjoyable. About the instructor: Iwan Szydłowski – Graduate of the Academy of Music in Krakow and the University of Warsaw. Studies at the Academy of Music allowed him to gain thorough knowledge in instrumental studies and music theory, while at the University of Warsaw he deepened his knowledge in pedagogy and new media. He has collaborated with many artists from the classical and popular music scenes, including Mikołaj Zalaśiński, Tomasz Krupa, Klaudia Gawor, Cirkus Merano BigBand. For many years he worked as an accompanist during classical dance lessons. He participated in recording sessions and many music productions. He began his teaching career at the age of 17, giving piano lessons to children. Currently, he teaches instrument playing, rhythmics, and music theory to people of all ages. In his teaching work, he is guided by understanding and patience, meeting the expectations of the student. He believes that music can and should be studied regardless of age or predisposition, as contact with this form of art enriches and develops a person on many levels.
