“Bioland” addresses humanity’s impact on our planet, weaving themes of captivity/imprisonment, industrialization and technological progress that transform ecosystems and affect the functioning of living organisms worldwide.
Audience members are invited to reconsider their position within the simulation unfolding before them. The work asks questions about the apparent boundary between observer and participant. By blurring lines between performance, experiment, exhibition and runway, it challenges anthropocentric assumptions through a fantastical, sometimes surreal lens. “Bioland” prompts reflection on the interdependence between human evolution and the fragile balance of life for all beings on the planet.
“Bioland” is a collaboration between the Crush On Trash Foundation and the Los Angeles collective Outrun The Bear, formed by award-winning choreographers Megan Doheny and Ilya Nikurov. The piece, originally created for Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, in its Polish presentation results from confronting the creators’ rich experience with bodies rooted in the Polish freelance context. A collective of professional dancers was assembled specifically for the project. After the performance there will be a discussion with the artists and invited guests.
