Spiritual bypassing is a term referring to the use of broadly understood spiritual practices as a way to bypass real problems. Instead of confronting us with our shadow, they serve as a screen that separates us from it. The concept, introduced in the 1980s by John Welwood, a Buddhist and psychotherapist, is perhaps even more relevant today than during the New Age popularization period. In post-pandemic times of heightened interest in spirituality and the creation of patchwork (quasi) religious systems, the exhibition poses the question of what lies behind these screens. Can eclectic metaphysics combined with the concept of well-being be just an alibi? Which spiritual practice most conceals what we need to face? Choose your fighter. Participants in the project (random order): - Anna Kulik - Anka Rynarzewska - Diana Todorovska - Natalia Januła - Aneta Huk - Lola Szlupowicz - Piotr Stechura - Helena Łomnicka - Pracownia ducha + Windowlicker - Milena Soporowska - Piotrek Sobiecki Schedule: 📅 Opening during FRINGE WARSZAWA 2025: - 25.09 | 17:30 - 19:00 - 26.09 | 17:30 - 19:00 - 27.09 | 12:00 - 18:00 - 28.09 | 12:00 - 18:00 📍 Location: Windowlicker, pavilion no. 40 at Nowy Bazar Różyckiego @vvindovv.licker is an experimental exhibition space. The pavilion serves as something between a gallery and an esoteric stall, thus referencing the tradition of bazaar fortune-tellers. You can drop by for the exhibition, but also for consultations, or to read various publications on esotericism, zines, and photographic books, as well as... view unusual tarot decks. The name Windowlicker comes from the English idiom "window licking" (window shopping) and the French "lèche-vitrine." In loose translation, it means "licking shop windows," which refers to looking at shop displays but ultimately not buying anything. The space is run by two creative individuals: - Milena Soporowska (@milsopo) - Piotrek Sobiecki, performing under the pseudonym Lotus Reaction (@lotus_reaction) More information: - https://www.instagram.com/vvindovv.licker/ - https://milsopo.tumblr.com/windowlicker-exhibition
