Otology the Italian Way - the only course of its kind in Poland - waiting list

We are pleased to invite you to the course with practical workshops “Otology the Italian Way”, which will take place at the Dermawet clinic in Warsaw or nearby.

The aim of the course is to provide participants with the necessary knowledge for correct management of ear inflammations in dogs and cats. The training consists of a theoretical part and a practical part.

Theoretical classes cover ear anatomy and physiology, diagnosis of acute and chronic otitis, interpretation of cytology and antibiogram results, principles of video-otoscopy and discussion of interactive clinical cases concerning management of external and middle ear inflammation.

Practical exercises will last a full day: realistic models of dog ears (pinna, ear canal, tympanic membrane) will allow learning techniques for flushing the ear canal and tympanic bulla, myringotomy, removal of polyps and foreign bodies, etc. Participants will be divided into groups and will work under the supervision of the lecturers.

• 28 March (Saturday) - practical classes (in groups)
  9:00–11:00 Developing manual skills and instrument handling, ear canal flushing, removal of foreign bodies using endoscopic forceps
  11:00–11:30 Coffee break
  11:30–13:00 Learning technique for sampling for histological examination using forceps, removal of polyps with a “loop”
  13:00–14:30 Lunch
  14:30–16:30 Myringotomy, sampling from the tympanic bulla, flushing of the tympanic bulla

• 29 March (Sunday) – interactive clinical cases with video-otoscopy

Ending times may vary slightly from the schedule depending on the level of interaction between participants and lecturers.

The course will be translated consecutively from English into Polish by a veterinarian specializing in dermatology and otology. A maximum of 24 people will participate in the course.

Cost of participation: PLN 4500 gross — payable in a single installment or in two installments. The price includes printed, color workshop materials, coffee breaks and lunches.

Information about the instructors:

• Dr. Francesco Albanese: graduated in medicine at the University of Naples Federico II (1993). He is interested in dermatology; author of publications and books, works in various clinics in Italy and at the Centro Dermatologico Veterinario Toscano in Arezzo. Since 2024 he has been head of the dermatology department and consultant at the CDVet laboratory in Rome. Founding member of OTOVET.
• Dr. Luca Luciani: graduated in veterinary medicine in Perugia (2000), internship at UAB in Barcelona, specialist in dermatology of dogs and cats. Dermatology consultant, interests: otology/video-otoendoscopy and biofilm research. Author of publications, member of SIDEV and ESVD, founding member of OTOVET.
• Dr. Fabiano Necci: graduated from the University of Pisa (2009), specialist in dermatology and dermatological cytology, since 2015 involved in otology and videoendoscopy. Responsible for dermatology and otology at CVRS Anicura in Rome, author of publications, founding member of OTOVET.
