About the event

When human memory fades...

I invite you to a sentimental walk through one of Warsaw's oldest necropolises — the Old Powązki Cemetery. A magical place full of historic tombstones and the resting place of Poland's most distinguished figures. During the walk we will recall the people who shaped the city's history.

We meet on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 11:00 in front of the 2nd gate — St. Honorata, Powązkowska 1. The walk is planned to last about 90 minutes.

  • Which important figure lies by the cemetery entrance?
  • Where is Warsaw's first meteorologist buried?
  • Who and how did they trick Bolesław Bierut?
  • Where is the royal architect buried?
  • Where do the cemetery's founders rest?
  • Which grave was most visited at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries?
  • Where are the parents, teachers and a pupil of Fryderyk Chopin buried?
  • To whom do we owe the "Cheap Railway Lines"?
  • Who was the "iron florist"?
  • Why is there a "Plastuś" on one of the graves?
  • What is the cannon doing in the Cemetery?
  • and many more...

No fee is required to join the walk, however if you consider that the guide deserves a tip, you may give one.

The walk will be led by a city guide from Warszawski Zaułek. Warmly invited and see you there.
