About the event

We invite you to an exhibition of a series of graphics by Karl Nesser (Kornel Nurzyński) at the Sleeping Bookshop!

Stirred by stories about aliens, I prepared a set of six works devoted to this phenomenon.

All illustrations share the technique of digital airbrush, but in each I allowed myself freedom regarding the form itself.

I became interested in the topic of UFOs long ago under the influence of Erich von Däniken and ancient astronauts. However, the longer I delved into the matter, the more inconsistencies I found there, and for a long time aliens ceased to move me. Last year, though, bizarre stories from people recounting their own experiences with aliens began to reach me.

What fascinates me most is the mysterious nature of these phenomena. Beings coming from another world seem to materialize before our eyes, yet only partially conforming to the laws of physics. Their craft can leave traces in the ground, you can shake their hand, but at the same time they pass through walls and mock gravity. Some phenomena are collective, witnessed by hundreds of people, while others are private, unfolding for a single viewer. It even happens that the same event proceeds completely differently for each observer, as if the appearance of an alien had its building blocks in our subconscious.

An alien exists because someone sees it. Maybe it does not come to us from outer space, but from our mind. As if an unconscious part of ourselves tried to communicate with us in the form of external symbolic phenomena. The spaceship is only a piece of decor, and the scenes that unfold are filled with cartoonish absurdity or mythological strangeness.

Accounts of unexplained phenomena multiply around the world and I believe people are truly experiencing something. Now I would like to understand what all of this is.

At the moment I think the whole phenomenon can be treated as literally as metaphorically. Perhaps they exist really, but also only as potential. They are us from the future and heralds of the consequences of our current actions. They are the embodiment of our desires and fears, presenting themselves alternately as cruel tormentors or representatives of an enlightened world of harmony.

I like to treat this phenomenon as a reminder that anything is possible in our reality and no one will have enough life to learn its secrets.
