Maestro Jerzy Maksymiuk will conduct the February concert. Every encounter with this charismatic figure is important and memorable. Half a century ago he won the hearts of music lovers by conducting the Polish Chamber Orchestra; this is only one area of his rich activity. He has conducted many ensembles in Poland and abroad, inspiring admiration for his inexhaustible, astonishing energy that radiates onto musicians and moves the audience.
Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 2 in C major, Op. 61 (1846) was written during a difficult period of the composer's life, marked by illness and crisis, yet it sounds like a story of affirmation of the strength of spirit. The composition combines classical form with deep, spiritual expression: a quasi-choral introduction, a contrasting scherzo, a focused Adagio in C minor and a luminous finale in C major. The Cello Concerto in A minor, Op. 129, publicly premiered only in 1860, surprises with its bold form and intense expression. The soloist will be Bartosz Koziak — described as a “visionary” and “poet” of the cello, praised for his interpretations and daring repertory choices.
Leaves Falling Here and There (2011) is an atmospheric work by Jerzy Maksymiuk for chamber orchestra and piano (the Maestro performs the solo part). It blends elegiac mood with subtle impressionism; the opening is static and mysterious, the middle episode more restless, and the finale fades into silence from which solo strings emerge.
