In folk traditions, spring doesn’t come by itself — you have to call it forth and sing it in! Before we fill Kraków’s streets with joyful noise during the final walk with the Pucheroki, join us to polish the spring repertoire together and wake the body and voice from winter slumber. During a three-hour meeting at Żywa Pracownia we will immerse ourselves in songs of the spring season — you will hear and sing spring well-wishing carols from the Kraków area and other regions of Poland. To begin, we’ll take care of our voices with a short vocal warm-up.
Our guide through the world of singing traditions will be the indispensable Anna Sitko — long involved in the local traditional music scene. She co-creates workshops, concerts and initiatives that revive traditional rituals; in her educational work she focuses on connecting people through the timeless threads of musical and traditional motifs. She sings in Kraków groups such as Daj Ognia, Swada, Strojone. Instrumental arrangements of the songs are provided by Żywa Trupa Kolędnicza — a performative-musical initiative formed within the activities of Żywa Pracownia. For four years the group has led crowds during city processions as part of the Żywa Podgórska Kolęda, stages ritual theatrics, plays at dances and revives forgotten customs related to annual rites from the Galician area.
You don’t need to be a singing master — just willingness and joy in making music together. This is a special opportunity to discover the beauty of old, often forgotten melodies in a relaxed atmosphere. The open singing gathering takes place as part of the public project “Awakening Spring — School of Living Traditions” co-financed by the City of Kraków and the budget of Żywa Pracownia. Our socio-cultural projects can also happen thanks to you! support our activities and help create with us a meeting space inspired by tradition.
