About the event
We warmly invite you to the greenhouse for a botanical expedition – following the great botanical voyages of the Kingdom of Spain to the Americas, led by Wojtek Doroszewicz, our educator with a huge passion for learning about and protecting the plant world and for sharing his knowledge with others.
This is both a stroll and a guided tour of the exhibition ARTISTIC BOTANY OF SPANISH SCIENTIFIC EXPEDITIONS – we will learn the stories of fascinating figures: botanists, illustrators and plant collectors, and sometimes even more interesting, often convoluted routes by which various ornamental species reached our gardens, pots and windowsills.
Among the emerald greenery of the plants we will attempt a small botanical expedition in search of new species and admire the illustrative mastery of engravings from the Flora de Bogotá collection by José Celestino Mutis.
Guide
Wojtek Doroszewicz – naturalist, botanist, Latin Americanist; graduate of Interfaculty Environmental Protection Studies and the Center for Latin American Studies.
His interests, research and educational activities focus on contemporary threats and environmental protection, threatened forest ecosystems worldwide, private and community forms of nature conservation, biological invasions, sustainable development and the role of plants and animals in human history, culture and everyday life.
He works primarily on Latin America, where he has conducted research in, among others, Chile, Peru, Brazil and Cuba.
As part of the UW Open University he runs, among others, the online course: Łowcy roślin - botaniczne ekspedycje do Nowych Światów

No registration required. The number of places is limited – 15 people.
To take part in the walk you must purchase an admission ticket and appear at the meeting point.

In the winter season the greenhouses of the University of Warsaw Botanic Garden are open on weekends and public holidays from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The ticket office is open until 3:20 PM and is located in the Conference Room. The greenhouses can be visited until 4:00 PM.
