    About the event

The Czarne Bookstore and a5 Publishing House invite you to a meeting with Krystyna Dąbrowska on the occasion of the release of the volume "Selected Poems". The evening will be hosted by Michał Nogaś. 📅 Join us at Nowolipki on Monday, September 22 at 6:00 PM. Krystyna Dąbrowska Selected Poems Poetry Library of a5 Publishing House edited by Ryszard Krynicki. Volume 126. Premiere: May 28, 2025. A selection of poems by the laureate of the Wisława Szymborska Award. Here is someone who walks their own paths and writes poems only when they feel an irresistible need to do so – wrote Jan Gondowicz. – The task of this poetry is internalization. This is what distinguishes it from collecting impressions (something akin to "postcards" from travels, observed "scenes" or sketches made by painters), as it serves as a tool for penetrating one's spiritual life, recognizing who one is and why. The reader can participate in this process and form their own thoughts about it. Actually, not only think but also share emotional states: awe and terror, a smile, sometimes dizziness. This is why Krystyna Dąbrowska cannot be called an aesthete. She knows too much and guesses even more about human nature. And yet she remains light, seemingly devoted to details, free from the pathos that pessimism likes to advertise. This is high artistry. Krystyna Dąbrowska, laureate of the Kościelski Award, the Wisława Szymborska Award, and the Warsaw Literary Award, is the author of five poetry volumes. Two of them ("City of Indium" and "Soundtracks") were published by a5 Publishing House. Her ties with the Krakow publishing house also include translation work, as she translated three collections of poems by American Nobel laureate Louise Glück for a5, as well as prepared the selection and translation of the collection of poems by Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill "Hawthorn Thorn". Funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund. Czarne Bookstore, Jana Pawła II Avenue 45a/56 (entrance from Nowolipki Street). See you there!
