    About the event

Girls, dir. Gosia Wdowik ✨ November 29, Saturday, 7:00 PM ✨ November 30, Sunday, 7:00 PM 🎟️ Tickets: https://komuna.warszawa.pl/bilety/ GRAND PRIX of the 28th Korczak Today Festival 2024 “For the courage to meet oneself from the past, for elevating personal stories to the universal level, for directing a safe and artistic framework for the meeting between the audience and the actresses.” This performance has already happened once. According to the principle of experiment. This performance is happening again. According to the practice of recycling. This performance will happen once more—in the future. According to the principle of the longest suspense. We first met Stefa, Mimi, Jagoda, Wiktoria, and Pola in 2016. Together, we prepared the play “Girls” at Studio Theatre, in which we wanted to talk about the experience of being a girl and about how her body—and symbolic figure—functions in culture. The play was performed for two years, so during that time the heroines began to change. They grew out of their costumes and outgrew the stage. Their coming of age also changed the performance. We became interested in how the passage of time can be captured and transformed into a performative form. How to tell a story in which both the climax and the ending remain unknown? What is the experience of the passage of time? Are time and history always the same? Faced with all these questions, the idea for a cycle of performances about the lives of five heroines was born. First: Girls. Then: Women. Then—maybe Grandmothers. Beyond all this, we wanted to stay together in this process of growing up, maturing, and aging in a changing political landscape. - Director: Gosia Wdowik - Script (based on rehearsal materials and girls’ improvisations): Weronika Murek - Set and costumes: Dominika Olszowy - Editing of archival materials: Agata Baumgart - Video production: Bartek Zawiła - Video consultations: Wojciech Sobolewski - Lighting: Klaudia Kasperska - Music, sound design: Sebastian Dembski - Cast: Jagoda Szymkiewicz, Milena Klimczak, Pola Pańczyk, Wiktoria Kobiałka, Stefania Sural ______ Event co-financed by the City of Warsaw as part of the Komuna Warszawa – Social Cultural Institution project. photo: Filip Preis
