We return with a new edition of the hottest Polish documentary showcase – DOC HOT SELECTION 2025! For the opening – an intimate, moving portrait of an artist and a man who created his entire life away from the mainstream – the film "Where Painters Die" directed by Michał Pietrak. After the screening, there will be a meeting with the filmmakers, hosted by journalist Beata Kwiatkowska. About the film "Where Painters Die" For Bolesław Gasiński (1935-2020), life and art formed an inseparable bond, making Gasiński a figure on the border between artist and shaman. Gasiński's mysterious, self-built house resembled more of a wooden fortress, which after the artist's death became the only, albeit incredibly rich, source of knowledge about this unknown creator. "Where Painters Die" is an impressionistic, visually sophisticated portrait of an outsider, for whom the most challenging life experience was confronting the terminal illness of his beloved wife. The film, balancing between documentary and poetic visual essay, was constructed using archival materials found in the crumbling interiors of the late artist's home. Exhibition of Bolesław Gasiński's works On the occasion of the screening, you will also have the opportunity to see five original works by Bolesław Gasiński – the protagonist of the film. The works, displayed at Kino Kultura, will serve as a preview of the "Nomadic Exhibition," first shown at the Krakow Film Festival and set to appear in Warsaw this year. The "Nomadic Exhibition" is a small fragment of a collection of over a thousand works found in the home of Bolesław Gasiński, a lighthouse keeper born in 1935. Those close to Bolesław recall that Gasiński lived in his magical house somewhat like a homeless person. The house he built, lacking running water in its final years, was more of a studio, installation, permanent exhibition, or simply a work of art rather than a place to live. DOC HOT SELECTION is an annual showcase of the most interesting and frequently awarded Polish documentaries developed within DOC LAB POLAND. This year, you will see 6 exceptional films – from Poland through Turkey to Colombia – and meet their creators.
