Jacek Damięcki. From Dawn to Dusk Curator: Maria Poprzęcka The Biuro Wystaw Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition "FROM DAWN TO DUSK," where for the first time, paintings by Jacek Damięcki – a distinguished architect who found a new medium of expression in abstract art – will be showcased. The exhibition's curator, Maria Poprzęcka, invites you to an extraordinary encounter with the artist's work, who, despite being 90 years old, continues to "follow the riverbed backward," creating new works with vigor. Jacek Damięcki is an exceptional figure, an architect who has spent his life focusing "on thinking about architecture as an experience of space rather than on designing and implementing specific architectural projects." His paintings, unlike the works of other architects, do not focus on figuration or architectural visions. It is pure painting, pulsating with color, which becomes another channel of the artist's expression. The presented works are a collection created in recent years as a result of a sudden impulse and return to creative activity after illness. As Maria Poprzęcka writes, "painting is not a relaxing hobby for Damięcki – the architect, but one of the ways of expression." The exhibition takes the viewer on a symbolic journey that reflects the order of the day, time, and life. The gallery's tripartite space, arranged by the curator, creates a narrative from dawn, through day, to dusk. Dawn (Beginning) The first part of the exhibition is an explosion of warm colors, centered around the motif of the rising sun, whose glow awakens life. Among the paintings saturated with pinks and oranges, we will also find a surprising, the only figurative work by Damięcki – "Nefertiti," which the "artist avoiding figuration gifted himself for his 90th birthday." Blues of the Day (Life) The central hall is filled with large canvases dominated by blues, azures, and ultramarines. The paintings are like a record of the artist's experiences, who, being an avid sailor and glider pilot, knows the infinite shades of sky and water. As Poprzęcka writes, "Jacek Damięcki – glider pilot and sailor – knows like few others the countless colors of water and air, whose elements have taken over this space." Damięcki knows that sailing, like life, can be challenging but is also a source of joy and wonder. These emotions are reflected in the blue paintings, where we find "the strength of the wind, the vastness of sea horizons, the depths of waters." Dusk (End) The last part of the exhibition is dusk, which is not an end but rather a transition. Despite the apparent darkness, the paintings pulsate with a palette of browns, umbers, and earthy tones. As the artist himself says, "There is no black here at all." This part of the exhibition proves that Damięcki's creativity does not fade but continues to ignite, bearing witness to "passionate and lofty imagination" that defies the passage of time. It is a story about how passion and the desire to create have no age and that "extraordinary artists reject the supposed balance and calm," wanting to "follow the riverbed backward." It is worth noting that the exhibition at Biuro Wystaw is the main but not the only presentation of Damięcki's work. "Another showcase of Damięcki's paintings is currently taking place in his studio." The artist paints in an ascetic retreat, beautifully situated on the edge of the Vistula meadows, where "in a high, spacious interior, the paintings dominate, free from the competition of the artistic studio's picturesque clutter." 📅 Opening: September 2, 2025 (Tuesday), 6:00 PM 📍 Location: Biuro Wystaw, ul.
