Painting is joy! 100th anniversary of Stefan Gierowski's birth

The Stefan Gierowski Foundation invites you to the exhibition 🎨 "Painting is joy - even priming the canvas is a great celebration!" 📅 100th anniversary of Stefan Gierowski's birth The exhibition is open from May 25 to September 28, 2025. The showcase is part of the celebrations of Stefan Gierowski's jubilee: in May 2025, the artist would have celebrated his 100th birthday. The exhibition arrangement is based on the concept of a book developed by Stefan Gierowski himself for the Italian publisher Skira. The artist proposed an original solution for the catalog section: it is not based on a chronological review of works. Gierowski organized his paintings according to themes, which he titled as follows: - Sky - Line - Light and color - Earth: divisions - Concepts - Beginning and end - Abstraction While working on this book, he often said that he would gladly see an exhibition inspired by such a division someday. 🖌️ "There is no single way to create light in a painting. There is no rule, and light in a painting either exists or does not. It depends on sensitivity, tenderness, talent, or something else that allows all the conditions for its appearance to be combined and arranged so that it comes into being. For me, the long process of discovering that light has some meaning, connecting all matters concerning human existence, nature, and the environment, became very significant at a certain time. In my imagination, the symbolism of light began to slowly and cautiously emerge. Light is something extremely interesting and unknown: it has a mysterious nature. Physicists do not know the nature of light: sometimes it is waves, other times particles; the entire quantum theory, which I became interested in later, is based on light. Light is an element that builds the universe. In a simpler perspective - in cultural traditions, starting from Egypt, light has great mystical significance. It was life-giving, although it was always known that it could also kill. Light is surrounded by concepts and meanings that I mention, but the light we deal with in painting, in my case, is something that, while painting, we do not think about - it is born as if by itself...
