In solidarity with the Syrian people, especially with Syrian women, we gather to protest against the attacks by Turkey and Israel, as well as the marginalization of women and the promotion of religious fundamentalism by the new Temporary Government of Syria.
We also protest against the hypocrisy of Western countries, which prefer to negotiate with fundamentalists rather than with the Women's Revolution in North-East Syria.
We support all our sisters: Kurdish, Arab, Druze, Assyrian, Armenian, Yazidi, Alawite, Turkmen, Circassian, and Syriac women who are now fighting for their rights and their future! A free Syria also belongs to them!
The Fall of the Regime
On December 8, the regime of the Assad family, which lasted over 50 years in Syria, fell. Together with the Syrian people, we rejoice in their newly regained freedom, paid for with a sea of blood.
The fall of the regime brought liberation for thousands of the imprisoned and hope for a better tomorrow for the residents of the country, who were plunged into the despair of dictatorship and economic crisis.
Local powers immediately took advantage of the chaotic situation following the fall of the regime.
Turkey
Turkey and its mercenaries from the SNA (Syrian National Army) attacked the territories of northern Syria, where the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North-East Syria has existed for 13 years, known worldwide as the Rojava Revolution. This is a unique structure in the Middle East, where various ethnic and religious groups coexist, the management system is based on direct democracy, and its foundation is gender equality. Turkey and its mercenaries relentlessly seek to destroy it, carrying out terrorist attacks on infrastructure and the civilian population.
Israel
At the same time, Israel effectively disarmed Syria, dropping bombs on 400 targets - military bases and ammunition depots, killing dozens of civilians in the process. Israel is occupying more and more land in the southwestern part of the country. It employs methods proven in Palestine: destroying roads and homes, cutting off water, and shooting at peaceful demonstrations.
ISIS
Also historically supported by Turkey, the Islamic State attacks from its bases in the desert, seeking to seize as much territory as possible.
Women's and Minority Rights
The Temporary Government, supported by Turkey, was created by the Islamist group HTS, which directly descends from Al-Qaeda. HTS significantly contributed to the expulsion of the hated Assad regime and is seen by many Syrians as a chance for a better tomorrow.
However, the Temporary Government is beginning to implement anti-democratic changes. The specter of ethnic cleansing looms over the new Syria. HTS does not advocate for the rights of the attacked minorities in the north or for the fate of those displaced from their homes by Israel. The new government seeks to withdraw women from public and social life. Religious fundamentalism is slowly being introduced into schools, courts, public and social institutions.
The Hypocrisy of the West
Despite this, Western countries rush to secure good relations and formally recognize the Temporary Government as the representative of the Syrian people. They have never done this with the genuinely democratic and pro-women Revolution in North-East Syria.
That is why we gather to say: Hands off Syria!
NO to negotiations between the West and fundamentalists and criminals!
Echoing the voices of those celebrating in the streets of Damascus, Homs, Aleppo, Mimbic, and Qamishlo, we demand:
! Gender equality for women and all ethnic and religious minorities in a new democratic and secular Syria
! Closure of the airspace over Syria to protect it from attacks by Turkey and Israel
! Recognition of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North-East Syria and other self-governing bodies by international institutions and governments around the world
! Economic boycott of Turkey and Israel and accountability for the crimes committed by their governments.
Freedom for Syria! Freedom for Palestine! Freedom for Kurdistan! Freedom for all women!
