India is still a somewhat pristine country, especially when it comes to solo travel. It is still referred to as a completely different world, where modernity mixes vibrantly with tradition and culture. A huge and diverse country. So diverse that some say there should be a separate state every 100 km in India. It's hard to disagree with that.
Is solo travel in India, especially for women, safe? Can we communicate in English in India? What should we pay special attention to when traveling to India on our own? I will answer these and many other questions during my presentation.
We will start from the incredibly hot, crowded, and stuffy Delhi. We will visit the hot desert region of Rajasthan, the cities of Jaipur and Bikaner. We will head to one of the most important spiritual centers in India, the city of Rishikesh at the foot of the Himalayas. We will visit the Indian Himalayas in the Ladakh region, known as Little Tibet. We will traverse the dangerous region of Kashmir with the cities of Jammu and Srinagar, considered unsafe areas in the disputed region between India and Pakistan. Next, we will move to the eastern coast and visit the sweltering cities of Kolkata and Madras, which were the cradle of English colonization. Then we will touch on southern India. We will visit one of the oldest cities in Asia, Madurai. We will stop in the resort town of Kodaikanal, which is a refuge for Hindus on hot days. We will visit India's Silicon Valley, the modern city of Bangalore. We will touch on the tourist region of Kerala and Goa. We will see traces of the former sanctity of the city and the rice fields of Hampi. Finally, we will take a look at one of the largest metropolises in the world, 'the city that never sleeps': Mumbai.
