We invite you to the vernissage of the photography exhibition by Katarzyna Ewa Żak 'Ghost Town'.
'Ghost Town'
In Kolmanskop, a quiet corner of Namibia, the sand seems to be the dominant host. The ruins of a former diamond empire intertwine with the untamed force of nature, creating an image of transience and surreal harmony.
The history of this place is as turbulent as it is fascinating. It is not only an area of mining fever but also a short-lived experiment with the first German concentration camp. Those times are now just a quiet whisper of the wind, which draws shapes on the desert landscape.
It reminds us of the relentless passage of time, as well as human aspirations that can quickly be consumed by the sands of history. The abandoned walls bear witness to a colonial past and the fading memories of the indigenous peoples who once lived here.
Through the contrast between human activity and the power of nature, each photograph evokes reflection on transience and the impermanence of human achievements. This place, immersed in the embrace of desert sands, takes on a universal and metaphorical character, evoking mixed feelings - horror and fascination.
