Dir. Adrian Panek, Poland 100’
A moving story about independence, the search for one's place in the world, and closeness to nature. On the film set, animals fell in love with her. On the screens, the audience. Those who had the opportunity to see Sandra Drzymalska in the role of Simona Kossak during the pre-premiere festival screenings agree – her performance is captivating. In the film directed by Adrian Panek, we will also see Jakub Gierszał, Agata Kulesza, Borys Szyc, Olga Bołądź, and Marianna Zydek.
Simona Kossak, daughter of painter Jerzy Kossak and granddaughter of Wojciech, lacking the talent that has defined her family for generations, grows up without experiencing warmth from her despotic mother. When, after her studies, she throws everything away – home, tradition, social conventions – and takes a position as a scientist in Białowieża, she begins to live on her own terms. She settles in the middle of the forest, in a house without electricity and running water, surrounded by wild nature. There, in the magical wilderness, she meets photographer Lech Wilczek, with whom she shares passions – a love for nature and… a need for freedom. Their extraordinary relationship defies all patterns. However, Simona's ideas about the work of a naturalist and the position of a young woman in a male-dominated world undergo painful verification. She must stand up for not only her ideals but also the world of plants and animals.
