Program 2 of Polish Radio, the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, and the Opera Academy of the Grand Theatre - National Opera invite you to a carnival concert!
The program includes works by Artur Gold, Szymon Kataszek, Zygmunt Karasiński, Jerzy Petersburski, Władysław Szpilman, and Henryk Wars.
On the first Saturday of the carnival, we propose a musical journey through time. Let us return, as in the old days: to the world of pre-war musical cafés, revues, dances, the first sound films, and also... the beginnings of Polish Radio. Together with participants and graduates of the Opera Academy of the Grand Theatre - National Opera, we will recall the most beautiful works of great artists of Polish song - Jerzy Jurandot, Emanuel Schlechter, Julian Tuwim, and Andrzej Włast - as well as the music of outstanding composers: Artur Gold, Jerzy Petersburski, Władysław Szpilman, Feliks Rybicki, and Henryk Wars. Among others, we will hear “Tango milonga,” “Sex appeal,” “I made an appointment with her at nine,” “Love forgives you everything,” “This last Sunday,” and “Nikodem” in arrangements by Rafał Kłoczka and original arrangements from the archives of Polish Radio. A special place will be dedicated to the music of Władysław Szpilman: his “Little Overture” – composed especially for Polish Radio – as well as “Waltz in the old style” and “Little Waltz” will be performed. This year marks 25 years since the death of this outstanding artist, a witness to history and one of the icons of Polish Radio.
This year will be special for us: ahead of us is the jubilee season of the Polish Radio Orchestra and the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Polish Radio. Let us start this year by reaching for our family silver: in the archives and radio sheet music library lies what is most beautiful in Polish song. We invite you to dance by the radio receiver and to a musical feast at the Concert Studio of Polish Radio.
