Copenhagen, just after World War I. Karoline (Victoria Carmen Sonne), a young factory worker, becomes pregnant and finds herself on the streets overnight. When she encounters Dagmar (Gdynia award-winner Trine Dyrholm), a charismatic owner of an illegal adoption agency who offers her shelter and work as a wet nurse, she gets caught up in a web of mysterious events.
