Ceramics Course Level I.

The training will be conducted by: Justyna Skowyrska-Górska.

The workshop can accommodate 8 participants.

Cost: 1900.00 PLN

The author's training program is aimed at individuals planning to set up their own ceramic studio and anyone who wants to gain extensive knowledge about the art of creating ceramics. The classes are practical vocational training, and participants acquire knowledge while performing ceramic works in various techniques and learn theory during lectures.

The course includes 5 meetings of 6.5 hours each and 1 meeting of 4 hours, totaling 36.5 clock hours of training.

The course fee includes:

Workshop program:

1. Safety rules in the ceramics studio – OHS;

2. Rules of operation and equipment of the ceramics studio;

3. Materials science – sourcing clay, types and properties of ceramic masses, raw materials for ceramic production;

4. Firing ceramics: firing curves, operation of an electric kiln.

5. Decorating ceramics:

o ¬ glazing decoration

o ¬ decoration with engobes

o ¬ decoration with oxides

o decoration with pastels

o decoration with majolica

6. Learning techniques of hand-forming ceramics:

o ¬ pressed bowls

o ¬ decoration by impressing

o casting from liquid mass

o ¬ decorating using slip

o ¬ coils joined with slip

o ¬ smoothed coils

o ¬ intaglio and relief carving

o ¬ slab forming

o ¬ using plaster and bisque molds

o ¬ ceramic sculpture from a block.

What to bring to the training:

• clothes that you don't mind getting dirty with clay, apron.

• notebook for notes and something to write with.

A condition for participation in the workshops is to reserve a place and pay a (non-refundable) deposit of 300 PLN.

The number of places is limited, and the order of applications determines participation. The minimum number of participants required for the course to take place is 4 people. Otherwise, the studio reserves the right to change the course date after prior agreement with the participants. The course is aimed at adults.

Justyna Skowyrska-Górska

Painter, ceramicist, educator, cultural animator. Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Faculty of Painting, specializing in ceramics. She obtained her diploma with honors in 2006 in the painting studio of Professor Marian Czapla. She completed the annex to the diploma in ceramics in the studio of Professor Teresa Platy-Nowińska. In the same year, she completed her Pedagogical Studies. Since 2006, she has participated in numerous projects, serving as an instructor, lecturer, organizer, and cultural animator.

She has several solo exhibitions and a dozen or so group exhibitions, both of functional and decorative ceramics, as well as paintings.

She is involved in educational activities for children, youth, and adults, as well as art therapy for people with disabilities. At the training center of the 'Archery Academy' Association, she manages the ceramics studio. From 2016 to 2020, she served as the President of the 'Archery Academy' Association. As an instructor, she conducts professional development courses in the field of ceramics. In her work, she effectively combines the experience of an educator with the skills of an artist. She highly values ceramics as a tool for work in art therapy. In this work, clay seems to be the ideal tool. It improves manual skills and, through the process of creation, increases self-esteem, brings people closer, and allows them to express themselves. It is an exceptionally grateful material, allowing everyone in the field of ceramics to achieve success.
