The conference 'BioSphere of Education' aims to create a space for communication between teachers and scientists, exchanging knowledge, perspectives, and work practices. We will connect two perspectives on the fields of contemporary biology: school and scientific.
The main theme of the conference will be the scientific method, its significance in exploring the mysteries of biological sciences, and its presence in school teaching of scientific reasoning in biology classes. We invite you to meet a group of several female and male scientists engaged in biological research and biology educators who wish to share their knowledge, passion, work practices, and reflections on the needs and ideal shape of biological education.
In the program:
Lectures on selected aspects of contemporary biology – evolutionary research, threats to biodiversity, methods of molecular biology, and metabolism research applicable in medicine. Scientists will share their perspective on topics such as: why the issue they are studying is fascinating and important, the path their research has taken leading to the most interesting discovery, reveal the behind-the-scenes of research design, and together we will consider what a student should understand in biology classes from the perspective of the research areas presented in the lectures.
The lectures will be streamed live on the social media channels of the School of Education and the Faculty of Biology at UW
Educational offer bazaar: booths showcasing initiatives promoting science and educational offers from the School of Education, the Faculty of Biology at UW, and affiliated institutions;
Afternoon workshops:
– Thinking Class for biologists
– meetings with young scientists presenting the goals and methods of research, sources of passion and scientific curiosity
– laboratories on understanding and applying the scientific method in school research projects for students
– a trip to the Herbarium of the Faculty of Biology at UW
– teaching scenarios with ideas for lessons on honesty and ethics in science, using mistakes in teaching
