The authorities of Warsaw are planning to cut down over 200 trees and eliminate one hectare of the existing park to build a road that makes no sense.
What will we get in return? Bigger traffic jams and a promise to enlarge the park in the future… but it’s unclear when.

🟩 WHAT IS IT ABOUT? 🟩
It concerns the recently resolved tender of the Capital City Development Board (SZRM) for the construction of Posag 7 Panien Street from Taylor Street to Gierdziejewski Street and the construction of “Nowo-Gierdziejewskiego” Street leading from Posag 7 Panien Street to Jagiełły Street. At the same time, the “old” Gierdziejewski and Warszawska streets will be blind-ended.
🟩 WHAT CAN WE DO? 🟩
This entire reconstruction is still in the design stage and can be stopped.
How? In a very simple way - by ignoring the provisions of the local plan and instead of building the “new” Gierdziejewskiego, using its old route to save 200 old trees growing in Eko Park.
🟢 We appeal to neighbors from Niedźwiadka, Szamot, Gołąbek - come to the protest on November 16 at 1:00 PM. Let’s meet by the dog park. Let’s show how many of us there are and how much we care about Eko Park!
🟢 We appeal to colleagues from the District Council and members of the District Board - help us save Eko Park! Let’s start talks with SZRM right now, let’s show that the opinion of the district authorities should be decisive in district matters.
🟩 HISTORY OF THE PARK 🟩
Eko Park was opened with great pomp by the district authorities in 2018. The construction cost nearly 10 million PLN, of which 70% was covered by EU funding and 30% by municipal funds.
The place quickly won the hearts of residents, especially the youngest ones, who enjoyed the natural playground on Czerwona Droga Street. It is the largest green area in this part of the district and the only larger green space available to the residents of Gołąbek and Szamot.
Unfortunately, the local plan for the area contains a “original sin” - the shifting of Gierdziejewskiego Street to the west, which is associated with mass tree cutting and a total reduction of green space by nearly 2 hectares. The current stage processed by SZRM will lead to the elimination of 1 hectare of green space. The reconstruction of Gierdziejewskiego Street between Posag 7 Panien Street and Leszczyńskiego Street is recorded in the local plan - another 1 hectare.
Planners offered “in return” to enlarge the park with the former Gierdziejewskiego, Warszawska, and the Ursus market area. But the district authorities directly say that for now, there’s no point in dreaming about tearing up the old asphalt, and the relocation of the market will meet with huge social resistance and protests from residents.
In short - they will take away 1 hectare of the park and 200 trees, and in return, we will only get promises. We do not agree to this!
🟩🟩🟩
The Local Plan for post-industrial areas in Ursus was adopted in 2014. At that time, a different paradigm of thinking about the city prevailed, more “concrete” and less adapted to the challenges arising from the reality of climate change. There is no point in trudging through the mistakes made by planners.
Gierdziejewskiego Street already exists. A comprehensive modernization is enough - without tree cutting, without destroying green areas - for it to become a safe and comfortable urban avenue that will serve the residents of the area for many years.
That’s why we ask for your signatures on the petition.

We believe that together we will persuade SZRM and the authorities of Warsaw to change their minds. A change in the project is enough - which at this stage will still not cost much - and using the special road law to save our Eko Park.
