The Theatre Institute invites you on November 15 at 19:00 to the 40th anniversary of the monodrama 'The Book of Job' directed by Bohdan Cybulski. Stanisława Celińska will perform on stage. Tickets priced at 30 PLN are available on the Institute's website and on [GoOut.net](http://GoOut.net).
This year, we are closing the 'Mono at the Institute' cycle with a special event – a special performance of the monodrama 'The Book of Job' featuring Stanisława Celińska, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The year 2024 is also the year of the 55th anniversary of our Guest's artistic work.
The monodrama 'The Book of Job' premiered in the autumn of 1984 at the Piwnica Wandy Warskiej in Warsaw, then under the title 'De Profundis' ('Out of the Depths'). The premiere coincided with the funeral of Father Jerzy Popiełuszko. The performance was received as a mystery, after which the audience stood up and, instead of clapping, remained in silence for long minutes.
Teresa Krzemień, a reviewer for 'Here and Now,' wrote at the time: 'Celińska gives a concert of great class, without violating the privacy of these challenges, their human measure. 'De Profundis' is a hymn in honor of hope: Job believes until the end, despite breakdowns, that God knows what He is doing, sending him only disasters. The essence of this story is faith despite despair, obedience despite rebellion, fortitude through suffering.' The Actress herself, just a few years ago, recalled: 'In 'De Profundis' I touched on a great theme. I reached a peak that literature and theater can give.'
In 1985, the performance received an award at the 20th National Review of Small Theatre Forms in Szczecin for 'the noble form of poetic interpretation of poetry.' The justification for the award given at that time remains to this day the key to interpreting this exceptional performance.
Stanisława Celińska's acting, its simplicity and honesty, delights successive generations of viewers. The restraint of intonation, screams, whispers, and gestures allows, during the performance and long after its conclusion, to embark on a journey with Job and reassess one's own suffering into hope, which is always so much needed by all of us.
After the performance, there will be a meeting with the Creators, led by Mateusz Nowak – the curator of the cycle.
'The Book of Job' based on fragments of the Old Testament translated by Czesław Miłosz and 'Songs' and 'Laments' by Jan Kochanowski.
