Architecture and the climate crisis. Social housing. Design as speculation and experiment. What are young female and male architects concerned about?
During a series of meetings, three selected architectural studios will talk about their work ethos, selected projects, how they find their place in the local architectural scene, what being progressive means to them, and how they manage to survive in challenging professional and economic circumstances. Each meeting consists of a lecture, during which the designers will discuss the theoretical assumptions and practical dimensions of their work, and a discussion – led by the host of the series: architect Michał Sikorski from the Tło studio. The meetings will not be recorded or streamed. The creators value intimate meetings in 'real life,' actual conversation, and listening to each other.
The event is part of the 'We Are Opening Up!' series.
ℹ Free admission. The meetings will be simultaneously translated into English.

The protagonist of the first meeting (07/11/2024 at 18:30) will be the Prolog studio, which has been operating since 2017. It currently consists of: Mirabela Jurczenko, Bartosz Kowal, Marek Martynowicz, Wojciech Mazan, Bartłomiej Poteralski, Apolonia Slesarow, Wiktor Sawoch, and Agata Werochowska. Prolog's activities are not limited to architectural design. Each project is framed within a broader theoretical context: they publish, create exhibitions, and conduct workshops.
For the second meeting, the TŁO studio invited Studio Widoki (21/11/2024 at 18:30), which includes Milena Trzcińska, Łukasz Stępnik, and Dominika Bednarek. The studio focuses on the concept of typicality in architecture. They are interested in social housing and how to address the climate and economic crisis through design tools.
Meanwhile, the Ambient studio (28/11/2024 at 18:30) – the protagonist of the last meeting, was established in 2022 at the initiative of Magdalena Pios. For the designers at Ambient, the priority is to reduce the negative impact of architecture on the environment. Therefore, in their designs, they focus on the efficient use of resources: space, energy, water, and building materials. They use prefabricated technologies and low-emission materials, such as wood.
The host of the series, the TŁO studio, is a Warsaw-based studio led by Michał Sikorski, which incorporates the work of urban planners and landscape architects in architectural design. It realizes buildings and public utility spaces. The studio has published research on university campus spaces and prepared the exhibition 'The Poetics of Necessity' in the Polish pavilion at the London Design Biennale in 2023.
