Can passion have a taste?
“Broth and Other Passions” (winner of the directing award at the Cannes festival) draws you into the world of exquisite French cuisine, but above all, it sensually shows that through dishes, flavors, and aromas, one can express the deepest feelings.
The protagonists of the film set in the second half of the 19th century are the remarkable chef Eugénie (Juliette Binoche) and the renowned gourmet, gastronom Dodin (Benoît Magimel). They have been cooking together for 20 years, creating recipes and hosting grand feasts. They communicate mainly through dishes, preparing magnificent broths, sauces, quails, turbot, vegetables from their own garden, and spectacular desserts.
The world they create together helps them survive the most difficult moments in life, and their relationship evolves over the years.
The culinary setting of “Broth and Other Passions” is provided by Pierre Gagnaire, the famous French chef. Since “Babette's Feast,” there hasn't been such a delectable film in cinemas.
Bon appétit!
