From the very beginning of its existence, it has evoked admiration, and its impressive style referred to the palace in Versailles. The Krasinski Palace.
In the unanimous opinion of contemporaries, it was one of the most beautiful magnate residences in Warsaw, with a fabulous garden and a spacious courtyard. Its construction was a manifestation of the great ambitions of Jan Dobrogost Krasinski, an aristocrat who desired his palace to match, or even surpass, the palace being built at the same time for King Jan III Sobieski in Wilanów.
When the building became a government object - the Palace of the Republic, numerous institutions and state offices found their seats within it, and its vast courtyard became a public square, which gradually filled with additional buildings.
Currently, the Palace is a place for storing invaluable objects of Polish and world literature from the collections of the National Library. Here we will see, among others, the famous 'Florentine Psalter,' manuscripts of the chronicles of Gallus Anonymous, Wincenty Kadłubek, Jan Długosz, and manuscripts of Chopin's works.
An extraordinarily beautiful part of the 17th-century palace and garden complex is the picturesque Krasinski Garden, originally shaped in the Baroque style. It may not be as popular as the Royal Łazienki, nor as extensive as the Saxon Garden, but it attracts with its atmosphere, delights with colors, lush landscape, and historical details. And just like the palace and the square, it has extraordinary stories and events.
During the walk, we will learn, among other things:
# Why did Jan Sobieski imprison the future founder of the Krasinski Palace?
# How to convince a magnate to act according to the law?
# What will be the effect of combining a horseshoe and a raven?
# What connects the Amber Room and the Krasinski Palace?
# How to throw a party that is talked about for over 200 years?
# Where did the predecessor of Polfa Warsaw stand?
# From which health resorts could one drink water in the famous Warsaw Pump Room?

# Why can't one enter the Starzyński shelter?
