About the exhibition ◾️◾️◾️ The exhibition of Agnieszka Niziurska 'It is beautiful' includes works painted between 2022 and 2024, most of which are the latest oil paintings. The exhibition is an example of harmony, the beauty of which penetrates the audience with the power of nature captured in landscapes saturated with the energy of the elements: wind, water, sun, earth covered with greenery or snow.
The beauty of nature that the artist perceives is - one could say - boundless, elusive beyond time and civilization. The beauty present in the artist's view of the world, along with her painting workshop and experience, gives viewers a real chance to participate in an extraordinary spectacle transferred to the canvases exhibited at the Art Pharmacy from September 6 to 28, 2024.
About the Artist's work ◾️◾️◾️ The painting of Agnieszka Niziurska, whose object of interest since the beginning of her work has remained the landscape, primarily mountainous, but also marine and field, as a subject of landscape derives from neo-expressionism or, more precisely, belonged to it in the 1980s when it was the most important direction also in Polish art.
In the artist's painting from the 1980s to the present, attention is primarily drawn to the expression and symbolism of the composition and its individual motifs, which means that it has always been at the antipodes of realism, naturalism, and hyperrealism. At the same time, in her paintings from the eighth decade of the 20th century, the expression is more striking than in those later, which corresponds to a tendency characteristic of the neo-expressionism of the 1980s, marked by a kind of 'wildness,' as was earlier expressionism, and before it fauvism. Similarly, the symbolism of the composition and its individual motifs in these earlier paintings of the artist is more unambiguous than in works created since the 1990s, as the particularly oppressive policy of the authorities of the Polish People's Republic towards society in the eighth decade of the 20th century inevitably left its mark on the art of the time, unleashing various forms of protest and resistance, even if symbolic, from artists. (…) In particular, in Niziurska's mountain landscapes from this period, although also in those later, the mountains, or generally nature, are presented as a lasting point of support for man or a constant oasis of peace in turbulent times.
The oil paintings of mountains, seas, and fields that the artist has been creating since around 2007 constitute a new series, showcasing another stage of creating her own compositional and expressive solutions in the field of landscape painting. In them, the artist makes a very individualized synthesis, reducing individual compositions to elemental shapes and colors and their mutual relations, so that these paintings are situated on the border of abstraction and representational art. She operates with colorful forms devoid of the feature of verisimilitude, allowing, however, to identify the zone of earth and the zone of sky. Here, more or less extensive irregular patches of just two primary colors dominate, namely blue in various shades indicating the sky, sea, and mountains, and yellow – indicating the sun, sometimes multiplied, as descending circles in the sky, which suggests a sunset.
Agnieszka Niziurska has always treated the landscapes she paints as places that allow one to gain distance from the more or less turbulent political and social life around us and to see everything in the right proportions. And she tries to capture such an effect on the viewers in her landscapes, drawing them into vast colorful spaces through 'cinematic' distant and wide shots and seducing with the spectacle that nature constantly performs before our eyes.
