Home garden greenhouses are created out of a need to independently cultivate plants, fruits, and vegetables. It is about the certainty that they will grow in natural and optimal conditions. The task of a greenhouse is not only to create the right conditions but also to protect plants from negative atmospheric factors. Thanks to greenhouse conditions, one can grow high-quality plants, as well as species that would not thrive in an uncontrolled climate. Gardening as a hobby positively influences the personality of the gardener, developing traits such as patience, care, and mindfulness.
Greenhouse conditions, in other words, refer to an environment free from stress, troubles, and difficulties, which allows for conflict-free development, often leading to over-sensitivity. Analogously, the construction of 'The Greenhouse' has created an appropriate artistic microclimate, which has become a kind of laboratory for actions and thoughts concerning care, free collaboration, and training relationships in exceptional conditions. The unique conditions subtly emphasize the decorative nature of a potentially functional structure. The retro atmosphere of the architectural skeleton enhances the hospitable character of the entire endeavor. Artists have freely settled into the space, entering into relationships with the existing structure, complementing, cutting through, rebuilding, and suspending objects.
The initial impulse to work on the 'Greenhouse' project was the experience of the threat of losing Pracownia Wschodnia. We want to collectively reflect on how to create places that will serve as artistic greenhouses, where ideas of unrestricted creativity, exchange, dialogue, freedom, and non-hierarchy can be safely nurtured. Can they be protected from sudden changes in political and business conditions? Is it even possible to create ideal circumstances for the emergence and development of art? Can we develop content and ideas regarding the tensions of the external world in isolated, greenhouse-like conditions?
The exhibition symbolically invites you to a new chapter of Pracownia Wschodnia, which nearly disappeared from the cultural map of Warsaw at the end of 2023. Initially, the district did not want to extend the lease, but thanks to the efforts and engagement of many individuals from various backgrounds and the local community, the matter ended favorably for the artists. Soon, it will be the anniversary of the lease extension, which ensures that Pracownia Wschodnia at Plac Hallera will remain open to art and the public for the coming years.

Greenhouses in home gardens are built out of a desire to grow plants, fruits, and vegetables independently. They provide the certainty that these plants will thrive in natural and optimal conditions. A greenhouse’s role goes beyond just creating the right environment; it also protects plants from adverse weather conditions. In these sheltered settings, one can cultivate high-quality plants, as well as species that wouldn't typically survive in an uncontrolled climate. Gardening, as a hobby, positively influences the gardener’s personality, fostering traits such as patience, care, and mindfulness. It also offers a form of relaxation and respite from daily stress.
The term 'greenhouse conditions' can also be used metaphorically to describe an environment free from stress, trouble, and difficulty—one that allows for unhindered growth, but can also lead to over-sensitivity. Similarly, the construction of 'The Greenhouse' has created a unique artistic microclimate, acting as a kind of laboratory for activities and thoughts around care, open collaboration, and relationship-building in exceptional conditions. These unique conditions subtly emphasize the decorative nature of a potentially functional structure. The retro atmosphere of the architectural framework enhances the hospitable character of the entire endeavor. Artists have freely made themselves at home in this space, interacting with the existing structure by adding, cutting through, building upon, and suspending objects.
The initial impulse for the 'Greenhouse' project came from the threat of losing Pracownia Wschodnia. We want to collectively consider how to create spaces that function as artistic greenhouses, where ideas of unrestricted creativity, exchange, dialogue, freedom, and non-hierarchical collaboration can be safely nurtured. Can these spaces be protected from sudden political and business shifts? Is it even possible to create the perfect conditions for the emergence and growth of art? In such isolated, greenhouse-like settings, can we develop ideas and content that address the tensions of the external world?
