The 1970s, Brazil under the iron grip of a military dictatorship. The outstanding scientist Marcelo (the excellent Wagner Moura — memorable as Escobar in “Narcos”) returns to his native Recife to take his son to a safe place. The sun-drenched city is on the edge of madness — people die during carnival, a shark with a human leg in its stomach is found on a beach, and two killers arrive in town… Marcelo had crossed a dangerous mobster years earlier and now must hide. His life hangs by a thread.
