At the edge of the world, where the wind meets the sea, a story of transience and endurance unfolds. An abandoned building on the northern coast of Iceland succumbs to the forces of erosion and entropy. The ruins and surrounding landscape slowly yield to the wind and sea, while plants, animals, people, and specters collectively imbue the structure with new meaning. At the intersection of fiction and documentary, the film "Mannvirki" explores this multilayered world of uncertainty and hope. 🎥 We invite you to the screening of the film "Mannvirki" (2023), which will take place: 📅 18/10 (Saturday) ⏰ 17:15 📍 U–jazdowski Kino After the screening, a meeting with the film's director, Gústav Geir Bollason, is planned. The discussion will be moderated by Maja Gomulska, curator and head of U–jazdowski Kino, with the support of translator Zuzanna Błahuszewska. 🎟️ Tickets: https://u-jazdowski.pl/gleba-i-przyjacele/mannvirki The film is part of the accompanying program for the exhibition "Gleba i przyjaciele." The titles presented at U–jazdowski Kino as a cinematic context for the exhibition "Gleba i przyjaciele" can be seen as a loose extension of the themes explored in the exhibition. Just as the curatorial concept authors examine soil on different scales, so too are the perspectives from which we will view it on screen. Gústav Geir Bollason - born in 1966 in Verksmiðjan, is an Icelandic visual artist. He studied art in Reykjavik and Budapest, lived in Paris for several years, and eventually returned to the village where he was born. There, he curates a local art space: organizing film workshops, creating video installations, and hosting experimental music workshops. His first film "Carcasse" was created in collaboration with French artist Clémentine Roy. His second film, "Mannvirki," was showcased at the Rotterdam festival. Bollason's work reflects on the landscape and the relationship between humans and nature. Combining drawing, film, animation, and installation, the artist creates poetic landscape narratives at the intersection of art film, documentary, and fiction. His works, primarily realized on the northern coast of Iceland, in highland wilderness and by the sea, address themes of environmental change, energy, entropy, and myths embedded in the space.
