    WHAT WILL WE DISCUSS?

The music market is undergoing its biggest revolution since the MP3 format emerged. At the meeting we will consider how this affects not only artists creating music and their surroundings (once producers, agents and record labels, today also streaming platforms and big tech), but also us — listeners. Do we know who or what created the song that won’t leave our heads? Or does the source not matter, and emotions the track evokes are what count?

We will also look at the role and position of artists, including their copyrights (where inspiration ends and theft begins, and who profits today from others’ creativity), new settlement models, and questions of authenticity and emotion which, in music as in any art, still seem to belong to humans rather than machines and algorithms. We will examine the technological breakthrough represented by AI, investigating whether artificial intelligence is for composers, performers and producers a tool, a partner or a threat — what tools it already provides and what concerns it raises.

Whether you create or are a listener, we will give you answers to the question: how to listen attentively to music today and recognise its value.

Panelists’ names will be revealed soon.

The debate will be hosted by Magdalena Kicińska, editor-in-chief of “Pismo” from 2019–2024. A reporter and winner of the Grand Press 2017 award in the “interview” category. Author of the books: “Pani Stefa”, “Środki transportu” and co-author of “Teraz ’43. Losy”. In September 2021 she published a book written with Agnieszka Jucewicz, “Dom w butelce. Rozmowy z Dorosłymi Dziećmi Alkoholików.”
