“The Great Warsaw Stakes” is a story about a young jockey dreaming of a sporting career. The culmination of those dreams is participation in Poland's most important race — the Great Warsaw Stakes. The main character, Krzysiek, enters the world of horse racing with the naivety of a newcomer and an enthusiast. Only after some time does he realize that the races are a web of dependencies, huge interests and manipulation of results. The boy believes he can change it, especially as the country stands on the brink of great transformations. The fall of communism gives hope that the future will only be better and the rules clearer. However, in a world of corruption and dirty tricks it is hard to remain unblemished. Will Krzysiek manage to resist big money and rapid fame? How much is he willing to sacrifice to break the prevailing system?

“The Great Warsaw Stakes” is a gripping story about sport, the mafia and the struggle for dreams set in the turbulent early 1990s. A sensational, grandly executed spectacle rooted in the world of horse racing.
