He was one of the first members of the Young Circle of the Polish Composers’ Union. As part of the ZKP 100th Anniversary Festival, a "Meeting at the Composers’" dedicated to Czajkowski will take place in its historic headquarters, featuring Iwona Lindstedt, Urszula Kryger, Julian Paprocki, and Lilianna Krych. Although he was best known as a piano virtuoso, his true calling was composition. Andrzej Czajkowski’s first piece was a Nocturne for piano composed in 1948, and his last – "The Merchant of Venice," an opera in three acts with an epilogue, which he wrote over 14 years and finished on his deathbed in a hospital in Oxford. A special reason for the "Meeting" is the "Octet" for clarinet, oboe, horn, and string quintet, composed in 1961 and preserved in manuscript, performed for the first time in August 2025 at the initiative of clarinetist Julian Paprocki. Iwona Lindstedt, chair of the ZKP Musicologists’ Section, will talk with the invited guests about the Octet and other works by this composer, which will be presented during the "Meeting."
