About the event

Supervision workshop “How to combine theory and practice in Gestalt therapy"

We invite Gestalt therapists and students from year 3 of the psychotherapy training (4‑year model) and from year 2 (1+3 model) to a supervision workshop devoted to the practical integration of theory with everyday clinical work.

Our experience working with supervisees and students shows that integrating particular therapeutic skills, understanding the processes occurring during a session and the ability to describe them from the perspective of Gestalt theory is a challenge. During the workshop we want to concentrate on the question: how to realistically use Gestalt theory in contact with the client – without simplifying it, but also without detaching it from the living experience of the session.

  • Understanding and describing phenomena observed during a session with key Gestalt theory concepts (phenomenology, I‑Thou relationship, field, contact sequences, contact forms, figure–ground process, Self).
  • Integrating particular therapeutic skills: presence, self‑awareness, developing the I‑Thou dialogue, focusing on the ‘Here and Now’ relationship, supporting intentionality of contact.
  • Building awareness of co‑creation of the therapeutic situation.
  • Developing the ability to smoothly shift between spontaneous contact and diagnosing contact.
  • Supervision of processes conducted during the workshop by two certified supervisors with experience in teaching and examining at various Gestalt therapy schools/institutes in Poland.

The format of the workshop will combine live supervision work (in the forum and/or in subgroups) and elements of deepened theoretical reflection. The workshop is developmental and supervisory in nature — its aim is not a ready‑made recipe or thinking in terms of right/wrong, but careful exploration of what is, what I do, what happens in the relationship with the client, and deepening the understanding of one’s own practice in the light of Gestalt theory.

We believe that a workshop conducted in a supportive atmosphere will increase therapeutic skills and help prepare for exams or writing process descriptions required during training.
