    About the event

The 20th century is speeding up like a runaway locomotive when Zofia Szczupaczyńska – the heroine of the book "Madness and Death Will Flow Down from the Mountains" (Znak Literanova, 2025) – receives a dramatic telegram from Zakopane: CRIME STOP PLEASE COME IMMEDIATELY STOP. Her heart starts beating faster, but is it only because of the message? Zofia sets off and after (only) seven hours arrives in the capital of the Tatras, where she begins her investigation. We invite you to an evening inspired by the newly published novel by Jacek Dehnel and Piotr Tarczyński (pseudonym Maryla Szymiczkowa). The authors will select excerpts from the crime novel, and comedians will perform a series of improvised scenes based on them. We will question the oldest highlanders and prominent Zakopane figures to cut through the thicket of mysteries and reveal the truth. After all, a case like this – "a corpse from right under the Tatras" (and on Savior Square, no less) – doesn't come our way often. Jacek Dehnel – writer, poet, and translator, is the author of, among others, "Lala," "Saturn," "Foreign Languages," "Krivoklat," "Swans." Co-author (together with Piotr Tarczyński) of a series of crime novels set in Kraków at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, published under the pseudonym Maryla Szymiczkowa (including "The Mystery of the Helcel House," "Death in Venice"). He has translated, among others, William Faulkner, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Charles Dickens, Henry James. Awarded the Polityka Passport, repeatedly nominated for the Nike Literary Award and the Angelus Award. Piotr Tarczyński – writer, translator, PhD in social sciences. He has translated works by, among others, M. Chabon, A. Hochschild, D. Sedaris. Author of the books: "Breakdown. On Non-Democracy in America" and "Slimy Tentacles, Known Forces. The History of America in Conspiracy Theories." Co-author of the crime novel series about Professor Szczupaczyńska. Together with Łukasz Pawłowski, winner of the 2023 Andrzej Woyciechowski Radio ZET Award in the "Internet Author" category for running the most popular Polish-language podcast ("American Podcast") bringing knowledge about the history, society, and politics of the United States closer to listeners. photo: Kuba Dąbrowski ✨ Tickets: 75 PLN Tickets for the show can be purchased: - online – via our website, just click the BUY button - in person at the cashier – at the Comedy Club box office (if the pool of tickets for in-person sales has not been exhausted) - at the link: https://tixto.pl/s/2853 RULES FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE SHOW - Comedy Club shows are intended for adult audiences (18+). - The exception to point 1 are shows dedicated to children and youth (which we inform about in the title and description of such events).
