Since July 2024, the Mazovian Institute of Culture has been running the Small Artistic Residency – a residency project for invited young artists, aimed at providing emerging creators with conditions for free creative work and creating opportunities for direct contact with audiences. During her residency, Grażyna Marczyk will lead a project that is an intermedia artistic experiment exploring the relationship between sound and image and their combined impact on audience perception. The starting point is expressive drawings created under the influence of selected musical pieces, recordings of ambient sounds, and sounds generated during the creative act itself. The work is based on the synergy of senses: sound influences gesture, tempo, and visual structure, while the image, in turn, gains "sound." Simultaneously with the visual creations, improvised sound compositions will be created – recordings of the sounds of the drawing process, materials used, space, and voice. The activity is experimental in nature. The artist seeks to answer the question of how additional sound stimuli affect the perception of a visual work. Do they enhance its message? Do they lead to new associations, emotions, meanings? Can sound make a two-dimensional image feel spatial? Grażyna Marczyk is a graduate of the Institute of Artistic Education at the Maria Grzegorzewska Academy of Special Education in Warsaw. Her participation in the Small Artistic Residency MIK was made possible thanks to the courtesy of the university and the cooperation established with the Mazovian Institute of Culture. On selected days, the Small Artistic Residency MIK is open to the public. We invite everyone to visit and have direct contact with the project’s author. This is a time for the audience to talk, get to know the works, and learn about the artist’s workshop. Opening dates for the residency will be announced in advance. We also encourage you to arrange individual meetings with the artist (contact details below). We invite everyone to visit the residency and encourage you to follow updates on social media.
