We invite you on an extraordinary journey through the life and work of one of Poland’s greatest painters.
The Cracovia Danza Ballet performance “Olga Boznańska. All the Colors of Dance,” directed by Romana Agnel, is an artistic tribute to the artist on the 160th anniversary of her birth and the 85th anniversary of her death. It tells the story of a woman whose path led through the most important cultural centers of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries: Kraków, Munich and Paris.
About the performance: The production, staged to the atmospheric music of Edvard Grieg and Jean Sibelius, is a painterly vision of the world translated into the language of dance. The creators of the performance, referring to the title, sought to extract the richness of colors so characteristic of Boznańska, guided by her famous credo:
“My paintings look splendid because they are true, they are honest, serious, there is no pettiness in them, no mannerism, no affectation.”
The journey begins in Kraków, where we learn about the artist’s childhood and early youth, inspired by her paintings such as “Girl with Sunflowers” and “Flower Sellers.” Then we move to Munich to witness her emotional life, and finally we arrive at Parisian salons, to the center of artistic life in Montparnasse, where Boznańska appears as a mature painter.
On stage we will see not only professional dancers but also students from music schools and educational centers who embody characters from the artist’s portraits.
