We invite you to the October meeting of the Book Discussion Club. 📅 On Tuesday, October 7th at 6:00 PM, we will discuss Serhiy Zhadan's collection of short stories "Arabesques," translated by Michał Petryk. The meeting will be moderated by Beata Prokopczuk-Daab. Please reserve your spot: [email protected]. We invite people who have read at least a few stories, although we recommend reading the entire volume. About the book: - A man and a woman meet in a hotel to take off their uniforms for a moment and forget everything. - Two women stand over the grave of a man who no longer belongs to either of them. - A girl and a boy talk in a park about what could have been but will never happen. - Volunteers bring food to children who have learned not to ask for anything. - A teacher guards an abandoned school and deletes the phone numbers of deceased friends from his memory. - A daughter visits home for a few days, but closed doors separate her from her mother. Serhiy Zhadan's stories take us beyond the front line, to places where life still goes on: life in-between, for a moment, life instead, life as if. Life in haste, because soon one must return to where death awaits. And it's no longer clear what hurts more – fear, death, or those screaming birds and the long, endless spring. See you at Nowolipki!
