Crumbling halls of the former tractor factory became the impulse to tell the story of Ursus as a remarkably lively place — a place shaped for decades by the community gathered around the Ursus Mechanical Works.
Interested in the history of this space, Jaśmina Wójcik put up a notice in the neighbourhood proposing a meeting. Thus began a many‑year artistic undertaking carried out together with local residents and former factory workers, culminating in a feature‑length film.
In 2016, project participants pinned their photographs to a 1976 map of the works, marking the places where they had worked. From these meetings, conversations and memories the “Symphony of the Ursus Factory” was born.
This is a film not only about the factory. It is a story about interpersonal bonds, about the memory of a place and about a transformation that for many meant a sudden end to work and the breaking of daily relationships. At the same time it is a story about how memory is built together and how it can be recovered through art.
After the screening we invite you to a conversation with the project creators and the film’s protagonists.
Guests of the meeting will be:
We invite you to an evening about memory, community and what remains when the machines fall silent.
