About the event

It would take an endless number of books to record the wealth of African stories. These few tales are only a crumb — an attempt to preserve encounters that left a mark on my heart. I invite you to discover extraordinary places in Africa, far from beaten tracks.

  • Sahara — Chad: blue lakes and fanciful rock pinnacles; the desert with the Tuaregs in Algeria.
  • Ghana — an audience at the court of the Ashanti king; getting to know the refined culture of the kingdom.
  • Benin and Togo — a voodoo ceremony and dances with spirits.
  • South Sudan — the Mundari people and a visit to a cattle camp.
  • Kenya — meeting people living by Lake Turkana in an almost Martian landscape.
  • Malawi — the Gule Wamkulu rites and the wisdom of the ancestors.
  • Namibia — the customs of Himba women and reflections on the meaning of life.

Host:
Anna Olej-Kobus — expedition leader and storyteller. She went to Africa for the first time at age seven; for over 27 years she has been returning regularly. On her journeys she most appreciates closeness to nature, bivouacs and evening campfires; among friends she is jokingly called a bush baby (see what such an animal really looks like!). She believes in the power of good friendship, coffee and the African philosophy of ubuntu.

She co-creates the portals TravelNamibia.pl and TravelBotswana.pl. Author of many books, including: “Namibia. Across the desert and bush”, “Botswana. Through the Okavango and Kalahari”, “Animals of Africa. A safari guide”, “Why the baboon does not like the tortoise”. More: https://AfrykAnka.pl.
